WE KEEP ADDING TO THE COLLAGE!!!!!!!! “108 STRONG”
Updated collage of our local veterans…….
SEND US YOUR VETERAN’S IN UNIFORM. We are now up to 108 individual Woodruff Area Veterans within this collage. Send us pictures of your Woodruff area veterans. We will add them to our Hero Collage.
Woodruff has an extremely diverse group of veterans spanning every war since WWI and beyond. JUST IN THIS COLLAGE ALONE we have veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War, Gulf War, GWOT (OEF, OIF, OIR), and everything in between to include some still serving today (still in service today in this collage we have a 3 Star Army General, an Army First Sergeant, and numerous Officers & NCOs of various branches). This collage also has numerous officers to include 2 generals, 2 Pilots, 2 Bomber Navigators, 1 Intel Officer, 2 Soldiers from the historic SCARNG 2007-2008 218th BCT deployment, numerous Non-Commissioned Officers, 2 Rangers, 6 African American Veterans, 8 Female Veterans, 2 Hispanic Veterans, 1 Philippine Veteran, 2 Purple Heart recipients, and 4 KIAs. These amazing veterans came from all walks of life to work in Combat & Non-Combat roles consisting of various types of Infantry Gun Slingers, Office, Admin, Mechanics, Aviation, Surface Warfare, Engineers, Boatswain Mates, Artillery, Medical, Calvary, Electronics, Logistics, Communications, Explosives & Demolitions, Airborne, and many many more. Also in this collage are dads, sons, brothers, wives, sisters, grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, school classmates, one of our very own Woodruff High School Principals Mr. Simpkins, and our very own hometown legend Coach WL Varner. Also in this collage from the surrounding area is General Westmorland from Saxon, SC but who’s family is from Woodruff where he spent a lot of time (Commanding General of the Vietnam War) & Toy Caldwell of Roebuck, SC (one of the founding members of the Marshal Tucker Band). These veterans performed their selfless service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Army Air Corps, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and National Guard. Each of them have a part of this country’s history and a story to tell. All of these veterans, regardless of what era they served in, combat or non-combat, their rank, or branch they served in, consider each other family.
We as a community are super proud of our hometown veterans and want to honor them in the building of this Woodruff Veterans Memorial in McKinney Park in downtown Woodruff. Whether they were born here or moved here later, they are all our Hometown Heroes. Unlike all the veterans listed above, Woodruff has so many more veterans not represented in this collage. We want to change that. By building this Woodruff Veterans Memorial, we hope to represent as many of the Woodruff area’s military sons and daughters by being represented with a personal brick covering the floor of the memorial. Please, represent your veteran. If you see any of them out and about, thank them for the sacrifices they and their families made for the freedoms of this great nation.
DONATIONS: We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and this monument will be built with zero city funding. So, we need your support and your tax-deductible donations. Please help support a long-lasting memorial to honor your hometown heroes. If you have any questions, please send a message to me or to any of the committee members. Any of us will be willing to answer any question(s) on the Woodruff Veterans Memorial. Donations can be made by scanning the QR Code listed all over our group page and this Woodruff Veterans Memorial Facebook Page. Thank You for your support.

Collage….I posted a pic on FB but it’s not on there. Where should I send it?
Please email it to vicechair@wdfvets.org. Make sure to put the word “collage” in the email subject. When the next round of additions are completed, we’ll post it here. This way, we’re not relying on the Facebook algorithm to make sure we see the photos to add, or that y’all are seeing the most current updated version of the art. We’re doing this in batches, so please be patient with us. Appreciate your interest in the project.
